What is Vodcasting?

Vodcasting, also called video podcasting, vidcasting or vlogging, adds video to the downloadable sound files.


What will you need to vodcast at your school?


Software - Recommended

• Any good video converter
• Movie Maker or any free video editing software
• Camstudio for recording tutorials
• If using the school mac's: imovie or quicktime pro 7

Hardware

• Digital Video Camera for recording a lesson in class. Any Model costing around $300
• Fire Wire Cable

Possible uses for Vodcasting in Schools by Teachers

• Teachers can record and upload their lessons to the school portal. The students can then watch and listen to the missed lesson if absent on the day or revise a lesson at their convenience by downloading it to their ipod or video player.

• Teachers can prepare quick video tutorials for their students or other staff for the purpose of teaching new or existing software packages.

• Students could record and post project video interviews which could be automatically downloaded to a teacherís laptop or video player for marking via a Learning Management System. Students could even swap these with peers for peer review before turning in the final form to the teacher.
• Teacher critique of a lesson.
• Use a video recorded lesson as a teaching aide in future years.

Steps involved in Vodcasting a Lesson



Step 1

Create a video recording via digital camera in class

Step 2

Capture the video via fire wire cable to your computers hard drive. Edit the video using Movie Maker.

Step 3

Convert the video to an appropriate format

Step 4

Upload the recorded file to the school portal
